The weather outside is frightful, so why not make your holiday shindig delightful? From the décor to the food and cocktails, the perfect holiday party is all in the details. Whether you’re planning an intimate get-together or a big blowout, we’ve got some tips that’ll make you the greatest holiday host on the block.
Create a Theme
Choosing a theme for your holiday gathering will not only make your evening fun, but memorable for your guests, too. For example, if you decide to go with a ’50s theme, ask guests to dress in clothing from that era. Play retro Christmas tunes and serve classic mid-century party treats such as Jell-O salad, fondue, punch and cocktail wieners (on toothpicks, of course).
For a more casual shindig, ugly Christmas sweater parties never disappoint. Don’t forget to hand out an award for “Ugliest Sweater” at the end of the night!
Transforming your home into a holiday wonderland is simple with the right decorations. You probably already plan to decorate the outside of your home with Christmas lights, but why stop there? Intertwine white or colored Christmas lights with garlands and arrange the decorative garlands above your front doorway, mantel or along staircase banisters.
If you’d rather go for something simpler but still awe-inspiring, place either colored or clear battery-operated string lights in clear vases or bottles with a few of your favorite ornaments. You can use these in an elegant centerpiece on the table, or just to add a little light and sparkle anywhere in the house. You can also create this same effect using pinecones instead of ornaments.
Of course, you can’t have holiday decorations without a beautiful wreath. If you’re feeling crafty, make your own DIY wreath using pinecones and spray paint in the color of your choice (use white for a snowy effect).
Food and Cocktails
It just isn’t a party without delicious food and something tasty to sip on. This year, instead of spending hours in the kitchen preparing a sit-down feast of heavy holiday foods, simply put out an array of enticing appetizers, desserts and drinks and let everyone serve themselves. Use a combination of homemade and store-bought bites to keep things casual and cut down on pre-party prep.
Creating an unforgettable holiday gathering doesn’t have to be stressful. With simple recipes, great décor and a creative theme, you’re sure to make a statement this year. Cheers!
